Ultravox join Simple Minds for a short UK tour in November 2013

Statement reads -

"Ultravox are proud to announce a series of joint shows with great friends Simple Minds in November 2013.
The four UK arena shows will see the band sharing the bill for the first time in the UK after parallel careers spanning 30+ years.

'Its unbelievable to think that this will be the first time two of the outstanding rock bands so influential in the eighties have ever shared the same stage in the UK' a spokesperson said.

Tickets on sale from Weds March 20th.

Also imminent is an HD, live concert from Ultravox's European tour in October 2012. This multi camera shoot will be available on Blu ray as well as DVD.

A release date is yet to be finalised but it is planned to be released mid to late summer to coincide with the November shows "

The long awaited UK dates for the Ultravox 2012 tour are finally here -

Ultravox follow the hugely anticipated release of their forthcoming new album ‘Brilliant’ with a UK tour. Starting in Bristol, this will be the first time the band have played live since their ‘Return To Eden’ reformation shows of 2010.

“It’s always such an important part for us, the presentation of the live show, building the environment to play the music in,” explains Midge Ure. “We want to make our take on it as individual and memorable as possible, so that when you walk out of the venue and you put the record on in six months time it takes you right back to the moment when you saw it live on stage.”

The ‘Brilliant’ tour will feature brand new material from the album alongside classic tracks from the band’s hugely influential back catalogue. “We’re cherry picking what will work in the context of a set . There’ll be a good element of the ‘Brilliant’ album played live and we’re really looking forward to taking these songs out on the road.”

Thanks for being involved with Tunited and giving your feedback.

We recognised early on that there were some key features you wanted and needed on site; the development of which requires further funding to create. For some months we've been seeking additional funding for this development work but despite raising a substantial amount of money, we haven’t secured enough to develop Tunited into the best music platform it needs to be.

Even with a great idea, a huge amount of passion and a real desire to make a change, the unforeseen elements you never envisioned can knock you down. Unfortunately this is what has happened to Tunited.

Although the response to the site has been phenomenal from both artists and the music industry, the recession and lack of funding has brought this, very much needed, platform to an end. The site is now offline while we continue to speak with interested people about partnering us in the work that we have begun. I sincerely hope that at some stage in the future we can relaunch all or part of Tunited in some format to help support all artists realise their dreams.

I am truly inspired by some of the amazing talent out there who grabbed Tunited with both hands and used it in the way it was intended to be used. My belief in the quality of unsigned and independent music is un-faltered and my desire to see a proper 'home' for real music is undiminished.

Thanks again to everyone for being part of this. Keep fighting the good fight.

We are delighted to announce that following Ultravox's return to the live arena in 2009/10 with their successful Return to Eden tour, that they have recently signed a deal with Universal Records.

A natural progression from the reformation that was a celebration of their 30th anniversary, the band have been working on new material for an album since Autumn 2010, which is now nearing completion.

"We've had such a great time performing our old songs over the last two years that we just didn't want it to end! There's an immense satisfaction in looking across the stage and seeing those familiar faces playing the songs that we wrote as a unit. When we sat down to attempt to write some new songs we found that the ideas just kept coming and so a new album became not just inevitable, but something we really wanted to do together. Once again the whole has proved to be greater than the sum of the parts."


Following on from the news about new material, comes more information about their forthcoming EP release, Moments from Eden. Due to be released by Eden Recording Ltd on Feb 21st, the 4 track CD is also being released as a Limited Edition 10" vinyl disc and features New Europeans, White China, Love's Great Adventure, and Herr X - a special version of Mr X, with Warren Cann vocalising in German.

Last nights Princes Trust Rock Gala, held at the Royal Albert Hall in London was filmed by Sky TV for future broadcast - possibly around Christmas time, there is also the possibility of a limited DVD release via Sony - details TBC

Rich Kids guitarist passed away yesterday - Midge has issued the following short statement -

In January The Rich Kids got back together to perform one last time to help guitarist Steve New.
Sadly Steve lost his battle with cancer last night.
Another one of the good ones gone.
My thoughts are with Steve's family and close friends.

Ultravox were one of one of the primary exponents of the British electronic pop music movement of the early 1980's.

The original (and only) line up of The Rich Kids will reform for one night in January 2010...

Watch 'Ghosts of Princes in Towers'

Former Rich Kids members Glen Matlock and Midge Ure have come together to organise a celebratory benefit concert in London. This very special evening will see the coming together of all four original Rich Kids: guitarist Steve New, drummer Rusty Egan, bassist Glen Matlock and singer Midge Ure. The event will take place at the O2 Academy, Islington on Thursday 7th January 2010. The show will start promptly at 7pm and tickets will be on sale from Friday 4th December from www.livenation.co.uk.

Guests confirmed so far are The Illuminations (featuring Clive Langer, Steve Allen and Ian Broudie), TV Smith (from the Adverts), Viv Albertine (from The Slits), Carbon Silicon (featuring Mick Jones and Tony James), Patti Paladin and Gary Kemp (from Spandau Ballet).

Glen and Midge will perform solo slots on the night and Steve New will play with his band Beastellabeast before all four of the Rich Kids take to the stage for one night only. The special guests will no doubt “join in the racket and play guitars very loudly” according to Midge Ure.

Midge will play at the "Homecoming Live gig at the Glasgow SECC on November 28th 2009,alongside many other Scottish acts.

The gig is designed to tie in with both St Andrews Day 2009 and a year long celebration of Scottish music and arts in what is the 250th anniversary of Robbie Burns birthday. The SECC will be effectively transformed into an indoor festival site for the show.

On the same theme Midge will be hosting the Burnsong "Song Final Awards" at the Scottish Parliament on Monday November 30th.

Midge will be the guest on tomorrow (Monday May 11th) nights BBC radio 2 Jools Holland show.... Midge will join Jools and his big band for an interpretation of Man Of The World in a slot where guest artists choose and then perform a favourite song.... Links here and here..

This guest appearence was recorded on Feb. 17th this year.

Midge presents another of his infrequent Radio 4 documentaries, this time focusing on African music from the townships both historically and in 2009 .

Featuring South African act Abavuki the programme was recorded in and around Soweto township in the last week of January this year.

To be broadcast on Radio 4 on Saturday April 11th at 10.30 AM, listen again will be available on the Radio 4 web page

For those who don't know the CD it leans musically more towards Move Me than Breathe, and is a good example of "instrumentalUre"

Midge yesterday recorded a session for future broadcast on Jools Hollands BBC Radio 2 show which goes out every Monday evening at 22.30...exact broadcast date is as yet undecided..

Just to clarify (somewhat late I know) that the live "extra" tracks on the I tunes download version of "Ten" are from the Intimate Moments 2 CD/DVD and as such are not unreleased in any shape or form.......

If you own IM2 , then you have these tracks already...

We are pleased to announce that Midge has been asked to join the Night Of The Proms shows in Belgium and The Netherlands in October & November 2008.

Midge will be joining the house band, replacing long time MD John Miles who is touring with Tina Turner....

Midge will be playing guitar in the house band as they back the likes of Sinead O'Connor and Simple MInds as well as singing a song or two of his own..

Midge has a guest vocal appearance on a track called "Smile" released on a new CD called "Colour" by an artist called Andy Hunter.....

The guest spot came about at the invitation of the album co - producer Robbie Bronniman (a friend / co keyboard player of Howard Jones) who Midge has known for a long time....Robbie played keyboards at the Wicked Women Breast cancer charity concert that Midge was MD for in Hyde Park, London in July 1999

Two tracks from the long talked about (27 years!!) "covers CD" will be released as a promo single to German radio for the tour in April,

We are very very pleased to be able to announce that Midge will be playing this years Cropredy Festival in Oxfordshire on Saturday August 9th.

For those not in the know the festival is hosted by English folk / rock legends Fairport Convention - however the festival should not be considered a "folk festival" by any sense of the word - as this years line up - featuring Supergrass, The Levellers, Joe Brown, The Muffin Men (a Frank Zappa tribute act) is as varied as always....

Midge is playing the prestigious "special guest" spot just prior to Fairports headline slot - typically a 3 hour + show !!

Tickets for the 20,000 capacity event, which generally sells out well in advance will be on sale from March 1st

The release date for this seems to have gone back to December 2008 !!!

We would suspect this means - "forget it" !!!!
